Canterbury, NH … Read about these two hidden gems, you’ll thank me.

Friends, I’ve struggled with posting this adventure. I love these two places SO much that I wanted to keep them just for me. But, being the unselfish person I am (don’t ask my husband about that comment), I’ve decided to let you in on it.

If you’ve been looking for something fun and fairly inexpensive to do… then plan an afternoon to this off the beaten path gem… it’s SO worth the trip. Where you ask? Canterbury NH.

This is a two-part afternoon. First, I want you to check out Fox Country Smokehouse. The Smokehouse has been in business since 1969 and it’s still located in the same quaint little house. The building itself is so charming with rock and wood siding, granite steps and what looks like original floors. It may be small inside consisting of one big room but its full of charm. It has a large cooler with a variety of smoked goods and little alcove of delicious delicacies. We have tried the smoked ribs, sausage and horseradish cheddar cheese and smoked bacon… just to name a few. All these items were amazing! Check out these photos… then keep reading for the second part of the adventure.

Fox Smokehouse is located at 164 Briar Bush Road, Canterbury, NH. Phone is 603-783-4405. Hours are Tuesday – Saturday 10-4pm, Sunday 12 noon-4pm. Closed Mondays. Be sure to take your smoked cheese, crackers and mustard dip and head down the street to the next fun stop.

Next stop friends…. Canterbury Aleworks, just a couple miles from the smokehouse. They allow you to bring snacks into the establishment because they don’t serve food. Open Saturdays and Sundays 1-5pm. You will thank me for this recommendation. Be sure to check out their website for winter hours.

On their website it says, “A little out of the way, a lot out of the ordinary”. “Step back in time and place at New Hampshire’s most unique wood fired British/Irish inspired Brewery and tasting room”. Friendly dogs are welcome.

They’re located at 305 Baptist Hill Road, Canterbury NH. On the second Thursday of the month from 7-9pm they host Sea Shanty songs and a sing-along. This sounds like so much fun, I may have to check this out as well. You’ll need to get tickets in advance on their Facebook site for $10 each.

What draws me to this place is the people. It’s a small room and everyone is pretty close together, so you can’t help but talk to one another. This time we went we met some wonderful new friends. The laid back atmosphere speaks to my sole, the wood stove warms my heart and the beer fills my belly. Hahaha, yup kind of corny, but truly just look at the smiles.

What’s so cool about this place is that definitely not your typical craft beer brewery. They have a good selection of Ales, Porters, Pilsners and one beer that I can’t remember the name of but when you pull the tap handle it actually blows smoke from the handle. I have NEVER seen that before.

Check out the pics below. If you want a great afternoon with smokey cheese, smokey beer and new friends… Please try this adventure. You certainly won’t be disappointed. You’re welcome 🙂 Till next time, Sharon.

So fortunate to have met this wonderful crew
