This beach has it ALL in Puerto Rico…Crashboat Beach!

You need to know about this gem! You’ll be glad you came here… and I can’t wait to go back!

This beach has it all.  Just being your bathing suit and a towel.   This beach has it all.
Let me paint a picture for you….. It’s hot, about 86 degrees, you’re sitting on your towel in the sand.  Not a cloud in the sky.  The wind is just light enough to keep you cool.  Latin music is playing all around you and people are laughing and having fun playing in the surf.  There are a few people playing beach paddle ball.  A few dogs are wandering around, some on leash and some off.
As you look at the ocean, the waves are big but not dangerous… just good jumping kind of waves.    Colorful surfboards and surfers dot the ocean just beyond the crest of the waves; waiting for the perfect wave.  You’re amazed at the young children being taught how to surf by their parents, some as young as 4-5.
You see so many people walking by, every body type, hair color, young, old, diversity galore…. all enjoying the same thing you are.  You’re watching the beautiful variety of colorful swimsuit’s and floppy hats.
You scan the beach to see colorful umbrellas everywhere you look.  People huddling under palm trees for a bit of shade.
Beach vendors are set up behind you and you smell the amazing empanadas cooking, meat cooking on skewers and you’re starting to feel hungry.
Doesn’t this sound like a slice of heaven.  Yes, it is!
Crashboat beach is located in the Northwest area of the island in the town of Aguadilla.  Of all the beaches I visited, this was my favorite by far.  This beach is handicapped accessible with a wheelchair mat and while there I saw a floating wheelchair in use.  It was great to see that this beach has accommodations so all can enjoy.
Parking was $5 and there is an attendant to help you find spots.  Umbrella’s and chairs are available for rent, umbrellas were $20 for the day and chairs were $5.  Rentals are picked up at 4pm.  You need to leave your license with the vendor and you get it back when the umbrella’s and chairs are returned.
Jet ski’s are available to rent for 30 minutes or 60 minutes.  The vender has a tent set up with life jackets.  They do have a guide that can go with you if you’re not skilled in riding.
On Friday-Sunday a DJ was on site to play a wide variety of music.  A tattoo artist set up adjacent to the DJ’s canopy for beach tattoo’s.  Massages were available on the weekends as well.
Let’s talk about the food….the empanadas were to die for.  The vendor made them fresh right in front of you.  My favorite was the pizza empanada.  There were many different flavors available, pork, chicken, fish, pizza, beef, etc.  The pinchos, or the puerto rican grilled kebabs, are marinated meat cooked on a skewer.  These are served with a side of bread and they have different sauces you can add to the pinchos as well.  Served in wrapped tinfoil.  These are delicious and cooked to perfection.  You can’t complain about the price, empanadas were two for $5 and the pincho’s were 2 skewers and bread for $4.
There were two frozen drink vendors.  Both were delicious.  My favorite was the vendor who took a fresh pineapple and cut it in front of you, removed the pineapple and used the fresh pineapple with white rum poured back into your pineapple, to make a most delicious drink.  The reminder of the pineapple is given to you in a plastic container to eat later.  These were $20, a little pricey, but a great experience and photo op.  Frozen drinks mostly were about $7 with alcohol and $5 without alcohol.   The one thing we couldn’t find was a vendor for beer.  We were told that the restaurant at the other side of the parking lot had beer buckets, but they were closed the day we were there.
On the left side of the beach is a very large old pier.  Lots of beautiful fish call this pier home and the snorkeling around there is just breathtaking.  This is a great fishing spot as well as a place for people to jump from.  A word of caution here… we were here on a calm day and many many people jumped from this pier with no issues at all.  Another day we were here the waves were angry and the surf was rough.  A man jumped from the pier and was pushed up against the pilings and almost drowned.  My husband and a couple of others jumped in to assist the man to the beach.  He was quite understandably shook-up, pale and bleeding, but he was ok.  So, word of warning…be very careful about jumping off the pier on rough days, there is no lifeguard on duty.  The riptide can be dangerous.
In conclusion, this beach turned out to be our favorite beach in the Isabela, Aguadilla area.  I plan to go back here again.  I noticed a beautiful little Airbnb on the beach that looked like paradise.  I saved the rental info and I plan to be back here, hopefully renting that little cottage, so I can watch the beautiful sunsets in the evening and wake to coffee and sunrises in the morning.
I hope you enjoyed this blog.  If you did, please sign up in my contacts and I’ll let you know when I have new articles coming out.  Until then,
Happy Travels,
Sharon
